For the last year or so I have been so busy with schoolwork around this time of year that I haven’t really helped when decorating the house for Christmas. But this year my mocks finished on the 1st December so I had all the time in the world to add fairy lights and tinsel to everything, and even decorate my room a bit too! Today’s post is pretty photo heavy because of all the pretty decorations that I wanted to share, so I hope you don’t mind. I’ll try and talk it through as we go along!
So downstairs typically had a very ‘traditional’ theme, with a lot of red, green and grey tones, which I love! It has been a similar colour scheme since I was very small so it just completely reminds me of Christmas and I love that. This is the first year for a while that we have gone all out with the decorations, as the last couple of years we have been having the house renovated so we haven’t gone too crazy. Until this year. There are trees and fairy lights and big ornaments everywhere and I couldn’t be more in love with it. When everything looked like a building site, I think one of the things that my nan was most excited about was decorating when it was all finished… so I love seeing all of her plans fall into place now.
We have a big tree in the living room, which I love because of the pine smell. I do think real trees look better despite all of the falling needles, and I’m glad that we get one every year. I don’t think I have ever had a fake tree downstairs! It is covered with fairy lights and lots of baubles, many that are just pretty and there are a few that have memories behind them. We try to buy a new bauble whenever we go on holiday to a new place, which I like.
Around the house we have lots of fairy lights and other little decorations. If you know me you know that I adore fairy lights, and we have even more around the house at this time of year! I love how pretty they look, I think that 80% of my Instagram feed has fairy lights in there somewhere! I also love how my nan adds funny touches to objects we already have downstairs, such as reindeer antlers on an ornament we have and a little halo on the Michelin man. They make me smile and I love that everything has a festive touch to it.
When decorating the house for Christmas, I have decided that I was going to decorate my own room too. Although it is not as crazy festive as downstairs, I do like adding a little Christmas spirit to the room that I spend the most time in. I have a little fake tree that I have put fairy lights around, and I have put all of my advent calendar presents underneath. I love this little corner of my room because it is so festive and really gets me in the Christmas mood. As the rest of my room goes, I’ve added a bit of tinsel here and there and a few ornaments, but apart from that not a great deal. I also have a festive blanket or two for my bed!
So there is a little insight into decorating the house for Christmas this year! I apologise for how photo heavy this post is but I love taking festive photos and I hope that you have enjoyed seeing them! As always thank you so much for reading and if you want to keep up with some more festive photos that I have taken, please take a look at my Instagram. ❤❤
