Brooke actually won my giveaway last year and since then we have both followed each other, and we have become good friends. We are doing a Christmas blogger box swap during blogmas as well so Brooke is featuring a lot over the next few weeks, which I’m so excited about. She focuses mainly on lifestyle and she is a student like me, so if you enjoy reading my content I’m sure that you will love Brooke’s as well. I was so happy when she wanted to feature on my A chat with, and answer not only questions about her blog and social media, but also some Christmas questions too!
As always, my questions will be in bold and Brooke’s answers will be in a regular font.
What made you start life of Brooke? Was it planned or a spontaneous decision one day?
I started life of Brooke as I had been on YouTube a couple of years which I loved but through doing I discovered bloggers and made quite a few blogging friends. Then as I discovered more blogs and the blogging community I decided I wanted to start a blog so that I could have a little space on the internet that was mine. To express my feeling, general rambles and mental health journey.
Which is your favourite platform to post on? I love your blog!
This is a hard one because at the minute I have a love hate relationship with both twitter and Instagram. Some days I really love twitter because I can interact with other bloggers and have conversations which would be hard on Instagram. But then some days, I prefer Instagram especially insta stories as that to me is like filming a YouTube video just more casual.
Do you feel like your Instagram has been hit by the algorithm?
I’ve always found engagement on Instagram hard. I think it is really tough to grow your following and have a genuine following that will interact with your pictures. I have noticed recently that some days my posts will really struggle and then other days flourish. Although, I don’t really pay much attention to numbers. I probably should do a bit more but for me blogging is a hobby, a way of expressing myself so anything I share on my social media is personal and not really for likes or comments.
You have committed to doing both blogmas and blogtober, which is crazy! How do you keep on top of everything and manage your time effectively?
I too thought I was crazy when I made the decision during summer to do both Blogtober & Blogmas. Especially seen as though I failed Blogmas last year. I think the key for me is being organised, very organised! I like to have all my post planned out, what pictures will accompany them, and I also like to have a bank of ideas of back up blog posts in case anything goes wrong especially now the weather is deterring! It’s also important to make time for yourself! As I’m in my last year of university I am swamped with work too so it’s getting that balance between everything and making sure I still feel like I’ve had some time to watch a film or have a day out.
What piece of advice would you say to someone who is wanting to start a youtube channel? I have wanted to start one for ages but have always been too scared!
Don’t be scared! I started mine when I was younger in my early teens and YouTube was just starting to take off. I had so much more confidence back then. I think my advice would be to be yourself, post content that you enjoy filming. Because, I’ve found if you don’t then you won’t want to sit and edit a video which for me can take anywhere between 30 minutes to 2 hours depending on the type of video. So, it takes a lot of dedication and time.
As this post is going live in blogmas, What is your favourite thing about Christmas time?
I love the atmosphere around Christmas everyone is so jolly! I get way too into the Christmas spirit from decorating to Christmas movie marathon days. I even bought a fake Christmas Tree for mine and my boyfriend’s university flat! Because, you can’t not have a Christmas Tree even if we’re not actually there the week of Christmas hence why it is fake.
Do you have any Christmas traditions?
My favourite Christmas tradition is one that came from my auntie before she passed away. Every Christmas Eve growing up she would have pork, stuffing and apple sauce sandwiches and around 5 years ago when her cancer became worse all of my dad’s side of the family (14 of us & 3 dogs) went on holiday for Christmas to a massive cabin in the countryside. On Christmas Eve we all had pork, stuffing and apple sauce sandwiches and since then it’s a tradition that I’ve kept going and I’m adamant on passing it down to my future children.
What has been your favourite day of 2018 so far?
See I can’t just say one day because I had an amazing weekend for my 21st birthday this year. The weekend started off with my boyfriend’s sister’s hen do where we went to Harrogate and went out for a meal and drinking. Then I caught a train back to my hometown and through an afternoon tea for my family and university friends which was amazing to have everyone in one place together! I then woke up on my birthday and my boyfriend surprised me with an overnight stay to Manchester. We went for afternoon tea, drinks and shopping. (the shopping was the cherry on top of the cake for me because it has a humongous Primark!)
What can we expect to see from you in 2019?
2019 is going to be a year of big changes for me! I finish my university degree and have to find some sort of work now that I’ve decided I don’t want to pursue a career related to my degree. I really want to focus on my blog and YouTube as I love doing both of them and 2018 really has been a great year for my blog. I went self-hosted, I’ve got a new blog theme and even been to a couple of events which is crazy!
As I talk a lot about beauty on my blog, I will have the last question as something beauty related. What is your holy grail product?
Oooo this is hard I would probably have to say my Real Techniques Beauty Sponge if that counts as seen I bought on quite a few years ago I can’t find another brush or sponge I like as much to apply my foundation and concealer it is just perfect. I even got my family and friends using them because they look them just as much as me!
