I have been watching Liv Rook for about 18 months now after finding her through Molly and I absolutely love it, she has definitely become one of my favourite channels to watch. Liv Rook makes fab videos for when you want some company in the background, especially her chatty updates each month. She is the same age as me so it was also so nice to watch the highs and lows of her A level experience at the same time that I was also going through the same emotions, as I found it really comforting. I was so excited when she wanted to feature as she has been on my ‘dream list’ for this series for a while.
As always from now on my text will be in bold and Liv’s will be a regular font.
How did you start your Liv Rook channel? Was it planned or a spontaneous decision one day?
The start of my Youtube channel was definitely spontaneous and I think all the creative decisions I’ve made in my life, so far, have been. I had a feeling that I wanted to make a channel but never set a date to produce it. It was one day in Yorkshire, whilst seeing my grandparents, that I decided to go ahead and produce my channel art and make a channel.
What is your favourite moment to come out of making a youtube channel?
Gosh. There’s been so many amazing memories, I couldn’t pick a favourite. However, two of my favourite things that Youtube have allowed me to do are: 1) travel and 2) make friends who live all over the world. Some of my favourite memories from Youtube include my friends and travelling.
You talk a lot about mental health awareness on your channel, so what piece of advice would you give to someone reading this right now that is having a hard time with their mental health?
Lots of people say it, and it can be annoying when it is said but: it will blow over one day and it will teach you something about yourself. I had a terrible year of mental health in 2016/2017 and I’ve never felt like that in my life. One thing that kept me going and kept me being me, was picking out the positives of the negative situation. I had fantastic, supportive friends and family members, I had a fab boyfriend who was super patience with me at the time. It really made me appreciate what I had. Now, after that terrible year, I still think of the positives. Although it was the worst, that whole year shaped me into who I am today. I know what to do in severe situations, I know what to look out for in friends and family members that may be suffering. I’m stronger than I was before and more determined to make a difference. Just know that what you’re going through will have a positive, and there is always a way out. If you’re having a hard time, let a loved one know. Please. No matter what your head is telling you, there are people who care about you and people who don’t find you annoying and will definitely understand that you need help. Tell someone asap, as then you’re more likely to be on a better path, rather than spiralling down continuously.
What are you most looking forward to this Christmas?
Being with my family! Last year’s Christmas was really memorable as my 2016/2017 Christmas wasn’t great due to severe mental health issues within the family, so I hope that this year’s can be even better and I hope that all my lovely family members will be happy with year.
What does your typical Christmas Day look like?
Typical Christmas Day looks like this: Wake up, get Mum and Dad a tea (to wake them up), open my stocking with my brother at the end of my parent’s bed. Then it usually takes a while to get going, so I might shower, get dressed, do a nice bit of makeup. We like to keep main present opening more towards the middle of the day- otherwise it’s all over in a flash. Let our dog open her presents. If me and my brother get given gadgets/ tech as presents then we usually play on those for a while before Christmas dinner. After that it’s family TV time and lots of chocolate and alcohol!! Can’t wait for the G&Ts!
Do you have any Christmas traditions?
The one Christmas tradition that sticks with me, is that me and my Dad get the Christmas tree together. Always. That’s probably my favourite tradition.
What has been your favourite day of 2018?
2018 has been a weird year and it’s flown past. One of my favourite days was my birthday, because my 17th was shit (again, due to the mental health situation) and all my favourite Youtube friends came down for a house party. It was a mix of my youtube friends, school friends, my boyfriend’s friends and surprisingly, everyone loved it. We played a game of beer pong, Youtube people vs my boyfriend’s friends and that was definitely a great memory of the night. The same for all my favourite Youtube friends sitting in my empty kitchen eating my Aldi- sauced pasta whilst fangirling over my dog. Love them to bits, they really do mean the world to me.
Do you have any New Years resolutions?
2019 is a big year for me. I’m definitely making it a whole new chapter in my life. It’s the year I finish education for good (finally!), and one of my biggest resolutions is to focus on myself a bit more and focus on my dream career. I already have some exciting things lined up and I’m ready to work, work, work.
What can we expect to see from Liv Rook in 2019?
I would love to tell you but I have no clue! Hopefully some more relaxing videos and more cinematic videos. I have no idea if my work will pay off in 2019, and when I will reach my end goal, but if I experience anything exciting whilst building on my music photography career then you bet there will be some EXCITING cinematic vlogs! I would love to document this next chapter of my life: who I meet along the way, who I work with, who are my friends for life, where I travel. I’m excited.
As I talk a lot about beauty on my blog, I will have the last question as something beauty related… what is your holy grail beauty product?
Holy grail beauty product… I’m going to break the rules here and say two. I’m a natural blonde so my eyelashes and brows are very fair and it’s annoying!! My £3 Freedom eyebrow pomade and a fab mascara!
So thats the interview! Thank you so much to Liv Rook for wanting to feature, and I hope that you have enjoyed this post as much as I did. If you want to look into her content further then click below to be redirected to her social media pages… I would definitely recommend taking a look and I can’t wait to see where her channel goes in 2019!
