Last week I was kindly invited by the team at Comptoir Libanais to review their Leeds branch, and despite being in exam season, I just couldn’t turn it down. If you know me you know how much I love food (click here for my last restaurant review), and I had never tried Lebanese before this night so I really wanted to try it. Plus my family were in Leeds for a few days, so I definitely wanted to take them so we could try it together.
Comptoir Libanais is situated in the Trinity centre, so a perfect and very central location for a restaurant. One thing that I noticed as soon as I walked in was how authentic and pretty it looked. As you can see by the photos, it is Instagram heaven! Everything was so brightly coloured and made a perfect photo opportunity. Plus you can actually buy everything that is hanging up and decorating the restaurant, which I thought was cool and unlike anything that I had been to before.
I thought that, despite it being very much a restaurant, Comptoir Libanais had a very cafe like feel to it. The atmosphere was very laid back, with spaced out tables and lots of people eating alone too. Its definitely somewhere that you could dress up or dress down too, which I really like.
First we ordered drinks, and I got the apple juice that had been freshly squeezed in store. I loved that it was so homemade- and it tasted amazing too! So fresh and you could really tell that it had just been made. My nan had the carrot and ginger version and really enjoyed it too. Another thing to note about Comptoir Libanais- because all of the options were on the healthier side I actually felt like I have given my body something good… which doesn’t happen that often when you have a meal out!
For starters, I opted for the ‘spiced chicken wings’, which were so nice. I expected them to be a lot spicier but they were actually on the milder side and I really liked that… I am a wimp when it comes to really spicy foods! These had so much flavour and I would definitely have them again if I went back to Comptoir Libanais. I think they were actually my favourite thing I had out of the three courses.
For main course I ordered the ‘spiced lamb kofta’, and in all honestly I had no idea what to expect as I have never tried Lebanese food before. However, I really liked it! Served with rice, they were spiced minced lamb that had been cooked through a skewer and they tasted so nice. Its nothing like I would usually order but I did really enjoy it and would recommend. It was a super generous portion too- I couldn’t finish it all!
For my dessert, I ordered the chocolate brownie. If you know me you know that I love chocolate based desserts, and this was no exception. It was so good I even forgot to take a photo before I started, which shows how much of a bad food blogger I am! That being said, this dessert was amazing and definitely worth trying as it was a Lebanese twist on the classic chocolate brownie… it even had flowers!
With our desserts we were also served a little cup of mint tea, which was such a nice touch. I also loved how he poured it- if you didn’t see you need to go to my Instagram (click here) and look at my saved stories as it was truly so talented. I certainly couldn’t have done it! Personally I don’t really like ‘flavoured’ tea, basically anything that is not your classic brew, so I wasn’t a fan but I can see how some people would love it.
So that was my evening at Comptoir Libanais in Leeds. Overall I had such a fun evening, that involved plenty of laughter, fab service and trying some delicious new food. What more do I want as a revision break? I would definitely recommend it if you are wanting a more healthy alternative to eating out, but still having the social and luxury aspect of a restaurant. Thank you so much to the team at Comptoir Libanais for inviting me and letting me try something new- I loved it!
