Podcasts are something that I have only really got into this year, and I have no idea why I didn’t discover them years ago. They are so useful for the times where you want something on in the background, but you don’t have the time to sit and physically watch something (like when you are tidying your room etc). I have always been the kind of person to listen to music, but since discovering podcasts I am more likely to listen to them, as I always feel more productive and come away learning something or having a laugh after my commute, whereas music doesn’t really provide that. I always find it difficult to find new podcasts to listen to, so I thought I would write a post on my favourite podcasts for people like me, who are wanting to find more to listen to. As you can probably tell, I listen to a wide range of things and no particular genre!
All of the podcasts mentioned are available on Spotify and free to listen to.
- The wooden spoon
This is a student run podcast, by 4 teenage ‘study tube’ youtubers, who I do watch separately on youtube, including the lovely Jade who actually featured on my ‘a chat with’ series last year. When they brought out a weekly podcast I knew that I was going to be a big fan, and it has definitely turned into one of my favourite podcasts for when I want bit of motivation. It is a really good one to listen to when I am lacking productivity, and it is often the first thing I listen to in order to start my day off feeling positive and motivated. They discuss failure, perfectionism, productivity and everything in between, and I think it is so relatable because it is from people my age so its super relatable.
- My dad wrote a porno
If you haven’t heard of this podcast, where have you been? This couldn’t be much different from the last one, but if I want a laugh this is 100% the podcast that I choose to listen to. I usually listen to this when I am cooking or tidying, because there is no way I cane productive whilst listening to it… I end up laughing too much! Its definitely one for people reading this who are 18+ as its very explicit but every single episode I am cracking up at it, hence the reason it has made it into my favourite podcasts. One of the host’s dad wrote a rather in depth porno when he was younger, and they spend the whole podcast reading it and completely ripping the shit out of it… I can’t really explain it until you listen to it but if you like more dirty humour definitely give it a listen.
- Mile higher
I think this is my favourite podcast that I have listened to, and its one that no matter what I always turn to. I don’t think many people will know this about me as I don’t really talk about it on my blog, but I LOVE conspiracy theory and true crime, and if I am watching something on my own it will most likely be something to do with conspiracy theories. This is the best podcast I have found for that as they cover so much information and they always get me thinking, but equally it isn’t so intense that you have to stop what you are doing and just listen. I love that they are super long too so you can put them on and just get on with your day, but equally they aren’t boring at all. If you are into conspiracy theories (I know it is becoming a big thing at the moment) then definitely check them out, its become a bit of a comfort blanket podcast for me as their voices have become so familiar… definitely the podcast I put on if I can’t sleep!
- From your big sister
I only discovered this podcast recently, as it is fairly new to 2019, but I have loved all of the episodes so far. I am an only child so a podcast liked this appealed to me, as its advice from Lisa Ferla, someone who is older and straight talking but definitely isn’t an ‘adult’ in the typical sense. A podcast full of advice, solving your problems, discussing society today, and plenty of tips and tricks along the way. Definitely one of the most light hearted podcast in this list of favourite podcasts, but still very important and needed for a lot of teenage/young adults.
- Blogosphere: serious influence
This is the final podcast in my favourite podcasts list, but its by no means the least favourite… in fact it is actually the podcast that introduced me to the whole world of podcasts in the first place. As I presume you have gathered if you are reading this, I am a blogger, and therefore whenever a blogging related podcasts comes about I always like to listen to it. I am fascinated by the industry, and this podcast is spent interviewing different people in the industry, from bloggers themselves to photographers and managers. I love seeing the behind the scenes and learning new things about the business side of the industry, which I would have never known, and also getting to know some bloggers better too. I loved the Victoria episode, from @inthefrow, as she is truly one of my biggest inspirations in the industry.
So there are my favourite podcasts at the moment, and I hope that if you are a podcast listener then you have found some new favourites to add to your playlist. PLEASE send me a message and give me some recommendations if you have any, as I am always up for trying new podcasts and finding new ones! I commute to and from uni pretty much all of the time and will be doing it full time in September, so am going to need plenty to listen to on my journey!
