When I was contacted by the team at Nars York I was so excited because I love Nars as a brand, so being contracted to work with them on my blog and Instagram is honestly such an honour. This is such an exciting brand deal for me, and it is with a brand that I have loved and used for so many years. I think if you know me and how much I love makeup and beauty blogging, you will know just how excited I would have been when I was approached by the team.
The closest Nars counter to me is Nars York (in the John Lewis*), and I booked in an appointment to meet the team and get my makeup done earlier this week. It was so lovely and Laura (the MUA that organised this for me) made me feel so welcome, as well as talking me through so many of Nars products. I feel like I know so much about Nars as a brand now, which I never knew before!
Nars offer two types of appointment that you can book in for. The first is called ‘makeup your mind’, which is a completely complimentary 20 minutes where a qualified makeup artist can go through a nars product of your choice and help you to apply it or show you a new technique. This is a fully complimentary service and you are not forced to purchase anything, which I thought was amazing. I never knew that!
The second type of appointment is their full appointment, which last around an hour and is £40. However, this £40 is redeemable against Nars products, so the appointment is technically free once you have bought a couple of Nars products. This is such a good appointment for if you are in need of some products anyway, whilst still getting your makeup done. This is the closest appointment to what I had done at the Nars counter.
We started off with a small consultation and deciding what I wanted from the appointment. Nars do two classic makeup looks:
- Winged liner and a bold lip.
- Bold eyes and a nude lip.
If you know me you know how much I love a dark eyes and nude lip, so I obviously opted for that option. I like to see how different people do my makeup, so I thought it would be more beneficial to see tips and tricks for a makeup look that I do regularly.
We started off with skincare*, and I had absolutely no idea that Nars did skincare until this appointment. I am so happy that I got to sample a few items and I really like it, and it made a perfect base for makeup. It felt so luxurious on the skin, but not too heavy, and made a perfect base for makeup.
Then it was onto the eyebrows and eyes. Eyes are my favourite thing in my makeup routine, so it was nice to see a different way of doing my eyes. Laura explained to me that Nars don’t do a classic ‘dark in the outer corner’ and rather go from darker on the lash line to lighter on the brow bone, which was explained to me like a cloud shape rather than a cat eye shape. I was a bit skeptical at first but I actually really liked it and I think it complimented my eye shape well.
After the eyes, it was onto the base. Nars is all about skin and their main focus is the base, and I can completely see why. From Laguna* to orgasm* to their famous sheer glow*, every skin product that I have tried are amazing and definitely worth the investment. I have never tried the radiant creamy concealer and the natural radiant long wear foundation, so I asked for these to be used so I could test them out. The service at nars is completely personalised and customisable, so I could choose if their are any products that I wanted to try during my makeup routine. Plus I am 100% buying the new ITA kabuki brush* for my contour on my next payday!
The final step in the routine was lips. If you have seen my makeup photos recently you will know that I love a matte nude, but I have also been wanting to try a gloss for a while… so I thought now was the perfect time. I opted for a matte nude shade, but then put the Nars lip oil* over the top to give it a glossy effect. I still think that I prefer a matte lip, but I do think this has made me want to buy a gloss for my makeup bag now.
Overall I loved my makeup, and I loved being able to try lots of nars products and learn more about the brand. Thank you so much to the team at Nars York for my makeover and letting me have a more detailed look at the full collection of Nars products. Hopefully there will be a lot more partnerships in the future, as it was such a fun collaboration with a beauty brand that I have genuinely loved for years.
