I was never planning on writing a blog post for the opening of Moxy York, but the event was just so good and I had so much to share, so I couldn’t resist. The holiday posts are just going to have to wait until next month! It was honestly such an unexpected surprise, and turned into one of the best events I have ever been to. It was such a fun night, with such a cool vibe!
Moxy York is a new 118 room hotel in York, which is opening on Black Horse lane. It is a very central location, with a very funky vibe and also a very reasonable price tag to stay there. It is definitely right up my street. This event was celebrating the launch of this hotel, one of only 7 in the UK, and I hope that it is a fab thing for York. “What happens at Moxy, Stays on Instagram’ was the motto of the press event, and that tickled me a lot.
After going for food (and a huge catch up), we headed to the event. We all waited outside for a while, so they could formally open the doors and let everyone in. I really wasn’t sure what to expect at this point as I have never been to a hotel opening before, but we were certainly in for a treat.
Im so lucky that over the past 3 years I have made such good friends with the York blogging gals, and I honestly feel like we are such a strong friendship group now…. Both on and off of social media. Being at events with them really calm my nerves, and it just feels like you are spending time with your friends. I don’t think I stopped laughing for most of the evening, and thats down to the lovely girls that I have met along the way. They are a fab bunch for sure!
The Moxy York event was held in the bar of the hotel, which is a huge space with many different areas to explore. I will definitely be heading there for a drink when I am in York again! There are plenty of people at the event (namely bloggers, press and local people in the industry) who were there to celebrate the moxy york launch… and my goodness did we celebrate! We listened to a speech from the manager of the hotel and the director of the Moxy chain, which ended in us all being showered in rainbow confetti. Such a nice touch and really started off the celebrations with a bang!
After the speech, we were really left to our own devices to explore the different areas and what they had to offer. There were so many rooms open to explore, different businesses dotted around the room and even a pop-up barber so the men at the event could be pampered too! Moxy York really went to town on making this special, and it worked. There was even a huge centre table filled with sweets for the guests to eat!
We started off by heading to the two “playrooms”, which were situated the 2 accessible rooms of the hotel. Moxy York definitely know how to celebrate, and really went to town on making this a very fun and photogenic evening.
The first ‘playroom’ we went into was a room filled to the brim with feathers, and a male model on the bed asking if anyone wanted a pillow fight. I wasn’t going to turn it down! Me, Natalie, Pippa and Bethan spent so long messing around with the feathers, jumping on the bed and taking photos. It was the most fun I have had in ages! The guy was a really good sport as well, and I can’t believe he was genuinely being paid to jump on a bed for 5 hours… what a job! We were covered in feathers after though, and Pippa even inhaled one which was rather hilarious.
After going to the toilets and plucking feathers off each other like chimpanzees, we headed into the second ‘playroom’ that Moxy York has organised for us. This room had all of the lights turned off, and the only lights were from the glow in the dark balloons and the headphones that were dotted around the room. It was silent disco!! I had never been to a silent disco before but I have always wanted to go, and this has made me want to actually book and go to one properly. There were 3 different headphone colours, and each one played a different song. It was so fun to have a little party and was a really cute touch to the event.
We spent the rest of the evening in the main bar area, listening to the live music and relaxing. The band were called PRTY and I really liked them, and the music really added to the atmosphere. Ive said it before and ill say it again, Moxy York really know how to throw a party! Louise also came to the event around this time, which was so nice to see her and have a catch up. It was the warmest day of the year and had actually hit 35 degrees earlier in the day, so we sat in the beer garden with our drinks for a while and just had a huge catch up. It felt like we are on holiday, and has really made me want to book a bloggers weekend away somewhere!
2019 is the year where I have developed a small obsession with flavoured gin, and Moxy York really knew how to heighten that obsession even further. My favourite gin brand is Whitley Neil, and they only went and had an open bar filled with Whitley Neil products. I was in my element! I got to try some of the gins that I have never had before, and I also got talking to the two bartenders who explained more about the brand and things I would like. They were very helpful, and pretty hilarious too (which you will be able to see from looking at the photo, which was originally meant to just be of the sign behind!).
What a fab night, and such a well thought out event. You could tell just how much time and effort (and money!) the team had put into making the night a success, and it 100% showed. I loved it, and I know that all of the other blogging girls did too. Thank you so much to the team at Moxy York for inviting me, and I hope there will be more opportunities in the future as it was honestly one of the best events I’ve been to. Heres to Moxy York!
