August 2019 has been such a nice month, and I feel like I have done a lot of fun things in August. Ive been at home for the majority of the time (apart from a trip to London) and I have really enjoyed having the time to relax and see my family more before I go back to uni in September.
At the start of august we travelled down to London for SITC, which I will get to later. However, we travelled down a day before the convention started to have a bit of time in London. We went to spitalfields market, and I met up with Ruby. Ruby is my online bestie, and we have known each other for around 3 years, so its always nice to meet up when we get the chance. Although that will be much easier now she is moving to Leeds next month! We went to ‘Crepe Affair’ and had Nutella pancakes and a good catch up.
On the evening me and my family went out to a fab restaurant called ’natural kitchen’, and enjoyed being in an area of London that I haven’t been to in so long. Plus I got to wear Molly’s ‘Get Noticed’ jumpsuit for the first time and I am in love. She has worked so hard and it shows as her pieces are amazing, and I would definitely recommend (although I am biased).
The day after was when SITC August 2019 begun, and all I can say is wow. This was my first SITC but I know for a fact it won’t be my last, because I had such a fun time. My favourite day in August without doubt! I won’t go on too much about it as I wrote two blog posts (one on the creator day and one on the Saturday), but I had the best time and would definitely recommend it to any online creators and viewers who have been thinking about it. I got to meet some fab viewers, network with some super cool people in the industry and meet up with online friends both old and new. I was so tired by the end of the weekend but it was 100% worth it.
Something else pretty cool about August was that I secured myself a little part time job. Obviously I am at uni for a lot of the time, but I have been wanting a little part time job (to get out of the house, meet people and for a bit of extra cash) and in August I was able to do that. I am working for a clothing store in my town for 2 shifts a week (which is ideal for me alongside other commitments) and so far I am really liking it. Hopefully ill be able to carry it on into the semester too, because I am enjoying it… and the extra cash is always good!
I was also able to secure some volunteering work in August, which is so beneficial to me. If it is not financially feasible to go fully self employed when I graduate, I would like to go into social media marketing. Obviously I have a lot of experience with the whole world of IR beauty, but its always a good thing to get more built into my CV to help me in the future. Ill be managing the social media pages of some of the charity shops in my local area, so hopefully I will be able to make a difference as well as helping build my own portfolio and experience too.
In August 2019 I attended my first wedding fair with Indigo Rosee Beauty. I was so nervous as I have never sold my lashes in person before, but it went well and I’m glad I did it. Its all helping to network and get my small business name out there, and I am glad that I did. I am hopefully doing another stall in October too! My stall looked so pretty and I really enjoyed setting it up, I had a lot of pride in how it looked! A very nice afternoon and the first of many stalls for my business I hope.
So this is something that I didn’t think I would ever write in one of my blog posts considering I barely use twitter, but towards the end of August one of my tweets went viral. It was a tweet asking people to take a look at my small business and to retweet if they can… and my goodness did people retweet. Enough times for it to be seen by over 200,000 people in 24 hours and now (a week later) its on even more than that! I have no idea how it happened but I am so glad it did, as it has definitely increased my sales and everyone was so kind about my business. Then the craziest thing happened. GRACE BEVERLEY retweeted me. This might not seem a big deal to most, but Grace is something I have admired in the industry for around 2 years and for her to notice my work is a huge deal to me. She balances everything in my life that I would like to do, running numerous successful companies, being an online personality and also absolutely smashing her academics. A role model for sure!
So that was August 2019! A pretty busy month but a good one, and my last proper month of summer because in September all of the freshers craziness start again. I can’t believe it was a year ago since I moved to uni! September is looking like a good month with some celebrations for my boyfriends birthday and some freshers week plans.
