Meg from @vivi_meg_makeup is a fab girl that I first discovered a few months ago when she followed IR beauty on Instagram, and started supporting my small business. She is so supportive, and not to mention fab at makeup. I immediately followed her account and I love her content, so I am so happy to have her feature on my a chat with. I hope you love her too!
As always, my questions will be in bold and Meg’s will be in a regular font.
What made you start your @vivi_meg_makeup Instagram page? Was it planned or a spontaneous decision one day?
To be honest, I hated myself. Due to my work, I was taken photos/videos every single day and posted on social media, sometimes without my permission. It was part of my job but i just couldn’t get used to it. Then, an influencer model I worked with recommended me to start taking selfies and posting them on Instagram myself so that I would get used to it. She gave me some tips and I just made the account. I also wanted to connect with people who had the same interests as me!
What is your favourite and least favourite thing about Instagram?
Favourite thing is that you can meet so many people from all over the world! I’ve even met with my followers in real life! Least favourite thing is seeing people send hate/negativity to others, constant competition when Instagram should be a fun thing to do. Also, people focusing too much on the number of followers and likes, numbers can never define who you are.
If you could give someone who wants to start an makeup Instagram one piece of advice, what would it be?
Just do it. Believe and have trust in yourself. I suck at makeup but I think i’ve made a pretty good account!
What are your best tips for growing a following online?
- Be consistent
- Post often
- Never lie
- Tag brands
- Go like and comment on someone’s post, share them, follow them, give support before you ask for it.
- Be patient because it all adds up!
You are currently based in Japan but raised in the UK, do you like living in Japan?
I love living in japan but I do miss UK. That’s why I go back every other year.
A lot of my followers are based in the UK, so what would you recommend visiting if anyone has travel plans/aspirations to visit Japan?
There are so many sites you can see for sightseeing so i’ll just say it doesn’t matter where you go, try to communicate with the “people”. Japanese people tend to be shy but if you speak slowly, they’ll recommend you where to go! They’ll probably even teach you japanese! My personal favs are shrines, temples and of course the drugstores!
You are one of my biggest supporters of my small business- what are your top tips for supporting small businesses?
- Like, comment, share posts, it only takes seconds and it’s totally free.
- Turn notifications on and watch lives.
- If you can, just buy the cheapest product and use it to the max.
- Take selfies with it, post it on social media, go out using it, tell your friends about it.
What has been your favourite day of 2019 so far?
My birthday. This year was the first time I was actually happy to be celebrated.
What can we expect to see from @vivi_meg_makeup in the future?
