I have made these posts each year since I started, and even though they are super long (and take hours to write), I think it is my favourite post of the year to write. I love looking back on all of my favourite moments of the year, and condensing them into the 10 best of 2019. The whole reason I started my blog was to be able to reflect on my life and create an online diary of my teenage years, and this annual post is the best way to do that.
This is going to be such a long post, so grab a hot drink!
2019 has been an amazing year, and arguably one of my favourite years ever. I feel like my life relaxed in 2019, and although I got a hell of a lot busier, I feel like I relaxed mentally. I know this is an incredibly privileged thing to say, but nothing has really gone wrong this year, and I have been able to live my life without any major situations going on in the background (which 2018 certainly had). Im not saying I have been happy all 365 days of the year as that would be way too unrealistic, but on the whole I am so content with how 2019 has gone.
I think the main word to describe 2019 has been personal growth. I have done a lot of things this year which has allowed me to grow as a person, and I am so much happier and more where I want to be now. It such a cliche thing to say but I have genuinely worked on myself this year, and I think it shows. Some examples of my personal growth include:
- Starting a business after years of dreaming about it.
- Passing my driving test.
- Going against the current and moving back home, and since then my mental health has improved dramatically.
- Said Yes to a lot more things, but also said no to a lot more things too.
- Realised that a small circle is a lot better than a large one, and spent more time with my close family, friends and boyfriend (the people I want to spend time with) rather than trying to to please everyone.
So now I have been way too nice about myself, lets get onto the main proportion of this post. If you follow my Instagram or have read my blog throughout the year you will probably already know what my best of 2019 is, but I thought to narrow it down to my top 10 days of the year. This was SO DIFFICULT as there were so many good days, but I think I have got the best of the best written down. I wish I could relive all of these days again!
These are all in chronological order, as I couldn’t possibly put them in order of my favourites!
We were only 5 days into the year and we already had one of the best of 2019. Pretty good start! We started the year off in London with my grandparents and my uncle, and I really enjoyed this day. It was freezing cold, we explored winter wonderland in Hyde park and relaxed. I particularly enjoyed us all going in the fun house! I also treated myself this day to a new pair of sunglasses, as a little congratulations to myself for starting my business, which made me really happy. There is nothing specific about this day that I loved, but I remember just being really happy and it was a good start to the year.
This just had to feature in my best of 2019 didn’t it? I can’t believe it was nearly a year ago since I launched IRBeauty, and what a year it has been. This was the day of my initial launch, where I showed everyone what I had been working on and people could shop the first 3 lashes for the first time. It was such a surreal experience, as only 10 people knew what I was up to before I launched everything.
As soon as I launched the website, we headed to my launch party. This was something I knew I really wanted to do when I launched IRBeauty and I am so glad I did because it was so much fun. Everything was turned into a purple wonderland, and I had all of my close blogger friends, home friends and family there to celebrate all things Indigo Rosee. It was amazing, and made me feel so proud that I was the youngest person in the room. No matter what happens with IRBeauty in the future, this will be something that I remember for the rest of my life.
If you have been reading these posts for the past few years, you will notice the gap in the dates… this always happens! I have exams over Easter, so I tend to lock myself a way in hibernation studying for a few months and appear again in May. This was actually the last day of my exams, and then straight after I got the train up to Middlesborough for Big Weekend. It was the first festival experience I had ever been to and it certainly didn’t disappoint. The best thing about the whole day though was the fact that me and my best friend Isy hadn’t seen each other for about 3 months, so when we did reunite we were on top form. I genuinely haven’t laughed that much in a long time, everything seemed to go just a little bit wrong, and it was just so funny. I spent most of the day dancing in the rain, seeing all of my favourite artists (including MILEY CYRUS) and laughing until my sides hurt. What a perfect start to summer, and definitely up there with the best of 2019.
Dublin will always be my favourite place in the world, so of course a day of this years trip had to feature in the best of 2019. It was so hard to choose what day to feature, but I think this was my favourite day. We didn’t really do much apart from shopping and exploring the city, and that is exactly what I love about Dublin. I love how at home it feels, and that there isn’t this pressure to be a tourist, and instead just relax. We shot some sunflower content for my second lash launch, and I just spent some quality time with my family. Couldn’t be more of a perfect day really, and I’m already excited to book the 2020 Dublin trip.
I think the annual marquee party has featured in every yearly post, and that makes no exception for the best of 2019. I LOVE the marquee parties, and I think all of my friends do too. Its such a good night drinking, seeing everyone when they are home from uni and spending time in the garden. I love that people can mess about, spill drinks etc and I don’t have to worry about it as its all in the garden. It takes the pressure off being the host for sure! This year we had some new members of the group join the gang (because a lot of my friends have partners now) so it was nice to meet them and involve everyone. Plus, some of my favourite memories of that night were people staying over and the next morning, as a lot of my friends stayed over and we had such a laugh until 4am. I am definitely having another next year for my birthday, its tradition now!
We are fast forwarding to our holiday now, and I found it so hard to narrow it down to my favourite day on holiday as there were so many that I loved. However, the one that made the best of 2019 list had to be the evening where me and John walked down to the harbour for food and drinks. We had both never been to that area of Tenerife before so it was nice to explore an area we both hadn’t tried (because a lot of the holiday I had been to previously), we had a lovely meal and then walked down the harbour. I can honestly say that it was the most romantic night of my life so far, so of course it had to make this list. We sat on a table right on the cliff edge drinking cocktails and having deep chats, listened to the sea and watched the sunset. Then we ended the night with a walk across the beach under the stars. It was magical, and I would love to go back and relive that evening again one day.
Now this was a surreal day, and obviously had to make it into the best of 2019. I have been considering going to SITC for years, so when I got the opportunity to go in 2019 I was over the moon. It honestly didn’t disappoint, and I had such a crazy day. I met so many people, spent time with my ‘online’ friends in real life, and also got to meet some of my followers on Instagram. I loved it! I chose the Saturday over the Friday for the best of 2019, because it was a busier day and I was a lot less nervous than the first day. Plus we ended the Saturday with a trip over the thames on the cable cars, and some cocktails at the 02 with so many people that I am very inspired by in the industry. What a day!
Our little trip to the Yorkshire wolds for my boyfriends birthday had to feature in this post. After both living in cities, and a very busy summer, we both wanted nothing more than to go to the middle of the countryside and just spend time with each other. So for Johns birthday I surprised him with a little holiday cottage in the Yorkshire wolds, and we absolutely loved it. We spent 2 days not putting any pressure on ourselves to do anything, instead lounging around, chilling in the private jacuzzi and spending time sleeping in the comfiest bed in the world. We are already planning a little trip for next year it was so good!
This isn’t something I thought would feature in my best of 2019 post, but I think that it sums up a wider re-discovery of my love of nights out towards the end of this year. I don’t go on many nights out, but in the last half of 2019 I have loved going out more and more, and I think its such an important part of university. Compared to most students I don’t go out that often (maybe once or twice a month) but it makes me enjoy it more as I look forward to it. This particular night in Manchester was so much fun, it was the first time that all 5 of us in the house went out together, so I was very excited. We went to my favourite club EVER (and one that I am going to try and go to on my birthday next year… if I can get some of my friends to Manchester that is) and we had such a good night.
This would seem like quite a normal day to most people, but it was the fact it was so normal that made it feature on the best of 2019. 2019 has been such a busy year, and its not very often that me, my nan and my grandad all go out together for the day. We decided to go to York to do some Christmas shopping, had a lovely lunch and visit the Christmas markets. I love York and it made me feel really festive. I really haven’t been feeling too festive this year because of my January exams, so this definitely got me into the Christmas spirit more.
I think that is a pretty good list of my best of 2019 right? I told you it has been a good year! This is my last post of 2019, so I just wanted to take a minute to say thank you for all of the support that you have given me and my social media over the past year. Whether this is the first post you have read or you read every single one, thank you for being there and giving me such a lovely community that I do not deserve in the slightest. Heres to 2020!
