As it is valentines day coming up in the next week, I thought this would be a fab time to discuss my date night ideas on a budget, and give people some inspiration for the 14th that doesn’t involve lots of money. We are all either on a budget, students or would be happy to save some money, so these ideas will give you a fab date night without your current account hating you. I think that most people (and I’m guilty) just resort to Netflix and a cosy evening, which although is nice, there are so many more enjoyable things you can do without spending much more.
This post is kindly sponsored by Moonpig, who are wanting to showcase how much love is all around us with their Heartfelt with Moonpig campaign, and I think these date night ideas on a budget show that! You don’t have to spend lots of money to treat your partner, and have a fab experience. Moonpig currently have so many cards, and gifts for your partner to share the love this valentines day, and I would highly recommend that you check them out. I had no idea moonpig sold such lovely flowers and chocolates too- its a one stop shop for all of your valentines day needs… not just cards!
Anyway- back to the date night ideas on a budget.
Date Night Deal
These are our favourites! If you know me you know just how much I love eating out (I would eat out for breakfast, lunch and dinner if I could) but obviously I can’t eat out all of the time. These deals gets you two main course, a side dish to share, two desserts and a bottle of wine for £10. Therefore if you split it, it would be £5 each… there not many places you can get a 2 course meal for £5! We get ours from Tesco and they taste so good, but I’m sure other supermarkets do similar deals too.
You can either cook them together and make a date night out of cooking together (I LOVE doing this) or you can treat the other person to a fully cooked meal. I love it when I’ve had a long day working to come back to my food cooked for me, its such a simple thing to do but such a good way to treat your partner, especially if you usually cook together.
Do something interactive!
I love going out for a few hours and actually doing something rather than just walking round the shops or going for lunch. Whether its bowling, the cinema or something else (including a ping pong bar in Manchester), the act of actually doing something is so much fun. These are my favourite kinds of dates, and my personal favourite is going crazy golfing. If you haven’t been you NEED to go, and it makes the perfect date. Ive been to a few different ones but my favourite has to be Junkyard Golf Club and I wrote a whole blog post about my experience here. They can get quite expensive though, but try and be as flexible with timings as you can. Weekdays and during the day are significantly cheaper than later in the day, and students also get off-peak discount. Worth looking into!
I was actually gifted this ‘dates dice’ from Moonpig, and me and John are definitely going to be using this from now on if we want something more interactive! It has 6 ideas on it and is perfect for people like me who can never decide what I want to do! I can’t wait to complete all of the ones we haven’t done over the next few months, when we are lacking inspiration.
If you want date night ideas on a budget where you don’t even need to leave your house, a games night should definitely be on the list. There are so many different ways that you could do this. You could either have a board game night (my personal favourite) where you play boardgames like monopoly and snakes and ladders. I love nights like this as it doesn’t take a lot of thought, but you can have a laugh and try and beat each other. Brings out the competitive side! Moonpig kindly sent me a couples board game to test our knowledge on each other, and I am so excited to give it a go.
Another option would be to get out your games consoles and play a game against each other. I really want to do this with Mario kart but I haven’t yet! I think it would be so much fun though.
I don’t think this is so much a date night idea, but its definitely one of my biggest tips for if you are having a date, whether you are on a budget or not. Dress up! Your partner literally sees you when you look your worst, therefore they should also see you at your best. I have been guilty of not dressing up because I feel comfortable and don’t need to impress anyone, but that is the wrong attitude. I love our date nights so much more when we both put in some effort and wear something we like, or know the other person likes. Its kind of a silly tip but definitely try it if you are planning a date soon. Plus if you look nice and feel confident you are more likely to take some pictures of the date to look back on, which is always fun.
This is the complete opposite of the previous tip, because this is where you completely dress down and put your comfy clothes on. I LOVE doing this, and you don’t even need to leave the house, so is perfect for if you want to spend time together but your schedule is really busy or you can’t afford to go for an outside date night. This is such a good date night ideas on a budget. Get ready for bed, put your phone on silent and try some of these:
- Apply face masks on each other.
- Massages! I will never turn down a back massage.
- Run the other person a bath with candles and a bath bomb.
Moonpig also has a fab range of products ready for your pamper night, so it is worth looking at the range of products available to improve your pamper night and make it extra special.
So there are my main date night ideas on a budget, and how you can have a fab date over valentines day without breaking the bank. I love all of these ideas and we try and make time for something like this once a week, but obviously we are all human and it doesn’t always work. Thank you so much to the team over at Moonpig for sponsoring this blog post and gifting me some fab products that I know that I will be using over valentines day to share the love, whether its for my boyfriend or with my friends and family!
