I wrote one of these posts about my favourite Instagram accounts right now around 2 years ago, however I thought to write another one because my Instagram viewing habits have done a complete 180 in the past 6 months. I always used to follow more ‘aspirational’ people, with the figure, bank balance or career that I aspire to have. And although these accounts are amazing and so inspirational, seeing people who you deem to be better than you on your feed CONSTANTLY is surprisingly toxic, and it was making me fall out of love with Instagram completely.
Therefore, on January 1st I decided to make a change. I unfollowed a lot of accounts (and I still continue to do so), and have been searching out for more ‘real’ girls on social media that I connect with. Its nice to have some aspirational women here and there, but changing up my feed has made me discover so many more accounts, and also make Instagram a more positive place for me in general. I know a lot of people who are making similar changes to me, so I thought to write a new post all about my favourite Instagram accounts right now, showcasing some fantastic women online who are spreading positivity and overall are just a breath of fresh air in my Instagram sphere.
I really want to make it clear that these accounts are relatable to ME, as a white, western woman who is a student. All of these people are a similar size to me, and they are all female. I am not blind to the fact that these accounts are not relatable to everyone, but these are the accounts that work well on my feed, but if they are not what you need to see on your phone… don’t follow them! Seek out people that relate to you, and who have similar interests/looks or culture to you. Its so personal!
Charlotte Emily Price (@charlotteemilyprice)
I LOVE CHARLOTTE. Her Instagram page is so relatable yet so positive at the same time, and therefore is obviously one of my favourite Instagram accounts right now. Charlotte is a third year student, who alongside uni posts to her youtube channel and Instagram. I love her content as she talks a lot about day to day uni life, which is obviously very relatable to me as a second year student right now. However, I mainly follow Charlotte because of her body positivity content. I am very much a middle ground. I am not a size 6 model that saturates my Instagram feed, but I’m not a plus sized gal either. And weirdly enough… there isn’t much content for them people in the middle, the size 10-14s. Charlotte is such an angel, and posts so much fashion content that meets that criteria perfectly. Her body is EXACTLY like mine, and seeing her having the confidence to post in bikinis and work with underwear brands is such a breath of fresh air on my feed. I love seeing someone with a body like mine oozing confidence, and spreading body positivity at the same time. She is so amazing that she even set up #bodyposipals on Instagram, so other women can share their body positivity all in one place! I actually interviewed Charlotte, so make sure to check that out if you want to know more about her!
Polly Vadasz (@pollyvdsz)
I have actually been following Polly on Instagram since 2015 during her gap year, and I have really watched her journey throughout uni, and now onto being full time self employed. I don’t think its a secret that I want to ideally be self employed when I leave uni, so seeing her navigate life post-uni is very refreshing for me to see, despite our industries being worlds apart. She recently went through a long-term relationship breakup, and it’s been so nice to see her move to Manchester and completely flourish. I particularly follow Polly for her stories, as she often videos ‘vlog style’ on her stories, and its actually very calming to watch her just talk about her day to day life. I’m not sure I will ever unfollow Polly to be honest, and she has remained a firm part of my feed for almost 6 years now.
Sophie Smith (@sophsaysblog)
Okay im biased… Sophie is one of my best friends. HOWEVER, that being said, we initially met through Instagram, and she is without a doubt one of my favourite Instagram accounts right now. Sophie is a smaller account, but honestly I have no clue why. She has been working so hard recently, she’s supppeeer talented at makeup and has started using IGTV to expand her beauty and lifestyle platform even further. I love that, despite her being a makeup account, she often shows herself without makeup (something that I am not confident enough to do, so I love seeing her having that confidence), and then ‘taps to glam’ on her stories to see the transformation. I just adore how down to earth she is, and is seriously just a normal girl working on building her page and playing with makeup. PLEASE go follow if you haven’t already, and if you want to learn more about her then I interviewed Sophie last year for my ‘A chat with series’.
Jade Bowler (@unjadedjade)
If you haven’t heard of Jade, then where have you been? Jade is genuinely a curly haired ray of sunshine in this world and on my feed, and I’m so glad that so many people have discovered her platform. Jade is a study youtuber, who after her gap year moved to San Francisco for university. She focuses a lot on self growth, positivity and sharing her day to day life in a very optimistic and uplifting way. I am personally quite a pessimistic person so seeing Jade’s positivity really helps me and brings my spirits up when scrolling on social media. I personally love her ‘causal magic’ series that she has on social media, where she talks about very little things that are pretty mundane but are actually so uplifting when you think about them, such as meeting friends, taking time for yourself or watching sunsets. Her mentioning specific things always makes me notice them too, which I love.
Gals Who Graduate (@galswhograduate)
I only discovered this account recently, but it has quickly become one of my favourite Instagram accounts right now. This account was produced by @brontekingg for girls who are about to graduate or have graduated, and entering adult life. I love this account because, although I haven’t graduated, I love seeing the stories and takeovers from girls who have, and it makes me feel more prepared and not alone for being terrified to be out in the adult world! I also love that amongst the takeovers there are also so many funny quotes and motivational posts, which are always nice to appear on your feed. If you are a student, or have just graduated and trying to navigate your 20s, I would highly recommend giving this page a follow.
I hope that me writing this post all about my favourite Instagram accounts right now has given you some inspiration and some new people to follow. I think, if you haven’t already, to make a goal of adding some more ‘real’ people to your feed is an amazing way to spark positivity on your Instagram feed and make your social media presence more relatable. Happy discovering! Plus, if you haven’t already followed my Instagram, then I would love it if you could come over and join our community that I’m trying to build up over there. Thank you!
