I feel like I haven’t done a product review in so long, but this product has had so much attention online recently, so I thought it was only right for me to give my honest review of The ordinary AHA 30% + BHA 2% Peeling Solution *. This product is something that has been blowing up on TikTok but, to be honest, I think you will have seen it on most social media platforms right now. It is everywhere!
The AHA 30% + BHA 2% Peeling Solution is a mask that you apply directly to the skin, leave for 10 minutes and wash off. However, this is like no usual mask, because it has a high quantity of AHA acid exfoliation. Basically, it is a lot stronger than a usual mask that you would use, and you are only advised to use it for an absolute maximum of 2 nights a week.
If you have seen previous skincare routines that I have done, you will be familiar that my skin LOVES AHA products. Namely the Ole Henriksen dark spot toner, that I have been using for over a year now and absolutely love. Therefore I thought from the beginning that I would like this peeling solution, because my skin loves AHA products. Also, this product is advised for people with acne scarring on their face, and that is my biggest skin concern, so I was expecting big things from this mask.
The first huge benefit to the solution is that it is super cheap, at around £6. I think that puts some people off trying the brand because the price point is so low and they associate it with poor quality, however I think the brand are purely trying to take away all of the extra details. This means you are left with a very good product at a fraction of the price. I love this concept, and I do genuinely think the products are worth a lot more than what they are sold for!
The first thing I noticed when opening the product is what a weird colour it is. I have never seen a mask have this colour before, but that isn’t a bad thing. I think that it is a very unique colour for a skincare product, but it does mean that you can see where you have applied it. Plus it is so unique on photos etc, which is partly the reason why it has blown up online. After applying the mask, it tingled for a little bit but then calmed down after around 30 seconds. I don’t have sensitive skin though, so I can imagine it is more severe for more sensitive skin types.
I feel like I can now give my honest review of The ordinary AHA 30% + BHA 2% Peeling Solution, because I have been using it for around 6 weeks. I will be honest, I didn’t notice a quick improvement in my skin. When I removed the mask my cheeks felt slightly softer, but nothing exceptional. So please do not expect instant results from this mask. However, after around 3 weeks of using this mask twice a week, I do think the faint scars on my skin started to fade, and my skin was just generally looking nicer and less inflamed. This must be down to the peeling solution, because it is the only new product that I have introduced into my skincare routine recently.
Now after 6 weeks, most of my scars haven’t disappeared but they have faded, and I can imagine that they will continue to fade with more use of this product. However, I think if you have dry skin, I think that this mask has a risk of drying out your skin, so make sure to moisturise after use to add more hydration that the mask has taken away. Another thing to note is that AHA products do make your skin more sensitive to the sun, so after using this peeling solution, you must wear SPF for the sake of your skin. I didn’t find this too much of a problem because my daily moisturiser contains SPF, however it is worth saying in case your daily moisturiser doesn’t protect you from the sun, as it is another thing you need to purchase.
Overall, my honest review of The ordinary AHA 30% + BHA 2% Peeling Solution is that it is an amazing product for the price, but I’m not sure it quite deserves the amount of hype that is it receiving online. There has been some difference in my skin, but it hasn’t been lifechanging, and is definitely not the fast solution to clearing acne scars that it has been dubbed as. However, if you are committed to using it properly twice a week then I do think you will see difference in your skin, especially if you scarring is pretty light. For the price, worth giving it a go, but definitely not the best skincare product that I have tried!
